Thar Water
Although it is true for all human beings that ‘water is life’ for the people of thar, the phrase holds an uncanny literal meaning. In many villages their entire lives are driven by water. Several hours a day are spent walking back and forth between house and well in the arid desert heat just to get a few gallons. Although the men play a role in this daily routine, it’s the women who the bulk of the work.
